Ramin & Kajal’s Wedding

Farhams Hall United Kingdom

Just recently I was privileged with the task of photographing Ramin and Kajal’s traditional Persian wedding day at Fanhams Hall, Hertfordshire.

The bride and groom found my web site, loved my work, and contacted me to discuss their requirements. I’ve been a professional wedding photographer and cinematographer for eighteen years and during that time I’ve shot, on average, 100 weddings per year. Being Iranian myself, I’ve covered a lot of traditional Iranian weddings also. Ramin and Kajal also wanted me to undertake the video side of things too, which proposed no problem as my company also has fully trained cinematographers who are experts in this field.

I had a meeting with Ramin and Kajal to discuss their photo and video requirements. It just so happened – after showing them many samples of my work, especially the traditional Iranian wedding photography that I’d undertaken previously – that they both loved my style. However, they also had a few ideas of their own, which I duly noted and worked into their wedding day.

When my crew and I arrived at the venue we first went to see the bride in her room. I photographed her preparations while the cinematographer filmed the proceedings. We achieved some amazing shots and video as the bride and bridesmaids laughed and joked and had lots of fun during these pre-ceremony moments.

After covering the bride’s perpetrations the crew and I went to visit the groom in his room, where he was busy getting ready. His father, brother and best man, Arman, were all there, drinking and having lots of fun. Again, we captured some great shots and video as they all laughed and joked.

Next we decided to go and take some photos and video of the Sofreh room before the guests arrived. As with most traditional Persian weddings, the Sofreh arrangement looked quite stunning. I took the opportunity to get some close up shots of the various traditional items that were laid out on the table.

The wedding cinematographer filmed the groom as he greeted the guests while myself and another videographer photographed and filmed the bride wearing her beautiful dress as she walked down the aisle. Ramin held Kajal’s hand during the entire ceremony while my crew and I continued to take photos and shoot video.

After the ceremony the family congratulated the happy couple before they headed out into the beautiful grounds of the hotel, where I took many amorous photographs of the newly weds. By now it was late in the day, about an hour before sunset – what we photographers refer to as “The Golden Hour” as the late afternoon sun, being low in the sky, has more of the earths atmosphere to pass through and gives off a lovely soft golden warm hue. As the sunlight passed through the branches off some nearby trees and fell upon the bride and groom I shot some incredible photographs while the cinematographer achieved some fine footage. I just love photographing traditional Persian weddings, especially in London and the south of England, and this one was no different. Myself and my crew had an amazing day and really enjoyed our work, which reflected in the final images and video.

After photographing the bride and groom they headed back inside to meet up with the guests. The speeches were emotional and, as per Persian wedding tradition, the happy couple danced with the knife before cutting the cake. Ramin also did an incredible solo dance for his new wife, which was unexpected, but appreciated and very much enjoyed by the guests.

The band, Armin, played a lovely slow song for the couple’s first dance before the rest of the guests joined in and danced the evening away to traditional Iranian music. The videographer and I captured some beautiful moments; both stills and video.

When Ramin and Kajal came to view the images at our studio In London they were enthused and overwhelmed by the photographs. The bride, Kajal, had tears in her eyes while she viewed the wedding photographs I’d taken. Later, the bride and groom thanked me and my crew, via Instagram, for the incredible job we’d done on their special day.
